Whether a society thrives or not all has to do with the leadership. Just think about it. If america had no leader, our country would be in chaos. A good leader has to have many qualities that will allow for a controlled and safe environment. These qualities include being unbiased, having respect from society, and being voted for by the public.  

If the leader only looks at problems from one perspective, chances are the wrong decision will be made. Looking at decisions at an unbiased perspective and viewing society as a whole, the correct decision will be made every time. Another quality all leaders should have is respect. Without respect, the people simply won't listen listen to the leader, and the leader could be overthrown. The last quality that every leader should have is that he/she should be voted for by the public. A leader that is chosen by election will have more respect from the citizens, and will be a better leader due to the fact that one is not just born into power.

In LOTF, havoc is beginning to spread due to lack of leadership and morality. Ralph, the leader, is not respected by the society as much as he should be, and has not been making decisions based on the good of all kids. He has not proven to the kids that he is the dominant leader that people should follow. Jack, the boy who is trying to take over the leadership role, is doing a better job of leading. Although he is making savage decisions, and wasn't originally voted for, he is convincing the kids that his way is the right way.
